Sudan showed impressive resilience on Saturday night, holding Senegal to a goalless draw in the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Led by Ghanaian tactician James Kwesi Appiah, Sudan hosted the Round 5 encounter in Group B today determined to keep hopes of securing a ticket to feature at next year’s mundial alive.
In the game played at a neutral venue, Sudan ceded possession to Senegal but defended resolutely throughout the 90 minutes.
Despite enjoying 66% of the ball possession, Senegal failed to break down the Sudan defense, and could not find the back of the net although the team had 19 shots on goal [four on target].
With the game ending goalless at the end of the game, both Sudan and Senegal had to settle for a point.
The result leaves Sudan at the top of the Group B standings with 11 points while Senegal occupies third place with nine points.
Coach Kwesi Appiah and his players will be aiming for a win against South Sudan next week to keep hold of the top spot in Group B.
