Nigerian midfielder Frank Onyeka has disclosed that the Super Eagles went into the game against the Black Stars of Ghana at the 2025 Unity Cup determined to win at all costs.
According to him, although the game was a friendly, the Super Eagles saw it as more than a friendly due to the rivalry between the West African countries.
“We know the rivalry between Nigeria and Ghana. For us, it was more than a friendly, we didn’t want to lose to Ghana. So, we went into the game determined to win,” Frank Onyeka said after the game.
The midfielder continued, “We took our chances in the first half and scored two goals. Our second half wasn’t the best, but we limited them to just one goal. It felt amazing to come out with the win.”
Nigeria and Ghana locked horns on Wednesday in the semi-finals of the 2025 Unity Cup.
A strike from Cyriel Dessers and an own goal by Ghana’s Razak Simpson propelled the Super Eagles to a 2-1 win.
Substitute Brandon Thomas-Asante netted the only consolation goal for the Black Stars during the contest.
After brushing aside Ghana, Nigeria will now face off with Jamaica in the finals of the 2025 Unity Cup.
