Senegal’s U20 national team battled to secure a crucial 2-0 win over DR Congo’s U20 national team on Thursday afternoon in the 2025 CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
The defending champions of the tournament before today failed to win any of their first two matches in Group C at the tournament.
The Young Teranga Lions opened the tournament with a shocking 1-1 draw with the Central African Republic.
Subsequently, Senegal lost 1-0 to the Black Satellites of Ghana in their next game.
On the brink of crashing out of the 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, Senegal needed to win against DR Congo badly today.
The team did just that by cruising over the opponent with a crucial 2-0 win at the end of the 90 minutes.
A first-half strike by Tidiane Thiam and a second-half penalty kick converted by Ibrahim Dieng propelled the Young Teranga Lions to the vital win, securing their place in the knockout stage of this year’s U20 Africa Cup of Nations.
