Moroccan goalkeeper Yassine Bounou emerged as the hero for Al Hilal on Wednesday night, saving a crucial stoppage-time penalty kick to deny Real Madrid victory in their opening match at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

The experienced shot-stopper started the Group H contest and performed outstandingly well.

On the matchday, Real Madrid took the lead in the 34th minute when Gonzalo Garcia finished off a fine team move, slotting the ball into the net after being set up by Rodrygo.

Al Hilal responded just before halftime, as Ruben Neves calmly converted from the penalty spot in the 41st minute.

In the second half, both teams put up a fight in a bid to find the winning goal.

Despite dominating possession, Real Madrid struggled to break through the resolute defence of Al Hilal.

The drama peaked in the closing moments of the match when Real Madrid were awarded a penalty following a VAR review.

Federico Valverde stepped up, but Bounou showed why he is one of the top goalkeepers in the world.

The Moroccan produced a superb save to deny the Uruguayan and preserved the draw.

The result sees both sides claim a point in their opening fixture of the tournament.
