Experienced Egyptian attacker Trezeguet missed a penalty on Saturday night as Al Ahly drew goalless with Inter Miami in their opening match at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
The forward started the crucial game for the Egyptian Premier League champions at the Hard Rock Stadium and put up a decent performance in the 65 minutes he lasted on the pitch.
On the matchday, Al Ahly head coach Jose Riveiro was forced to make a change as early as the 14th minute after star midfielder Emam Ashour picked up an injury.
New signing Zizo was introduced to replace the injured player and made a good account of himself.
Al Ahly’s striker Wessam Abou Ali thought he had scored in the 31st minute to give the Egyptians the lead, only for his goal to be ruled out for an obvious offside.
As the game progressed, Inter Miami, led by Lionel Messi, had their moments and pushed to find the equaliser in the first half.
However, Al Ahly’s resolute defence stood strong as the African giants dominated the contest.
In the 41st minute, Al Ahly were awarded a penalty kick after Zizo was fouled in the Inter Miami area.
Trezeguet stepped up but failed to convert from 12 yards [his effort was well saved by Oscar Ustari] as the first half ended in a stalemate.
Despite the spirited efforts of both teams in the second half, neither side could find the breakthrough and had to settle for a draw at the end of the 90 minutes.
