2025 CAF Awards: Morocco U20 Men’s team named National Team of the Year

Morocco’s U-20 national team has been named the Best National Team at the 2025 CAF Awards held in Rabat on Wednesday, capping off a night that also saw Moroccan stars Doha El Madani and Othmane Maamma take home top individual honours.

The young Atlas Lions captured global attention by becoming the first African and Arab team to win the FIFA U-20 World Cup, a historic breakthrough for youth football in the region.

Maamma, who played a pivotal role in that triumph, was named Men’s Young African Player of the Year, while El Madani claimed the Women’s Young Player of the Year award after a stellar season with AS FAR and finishing as top scorer at the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League.

The Best National Team award reflects Morocco’s sustained investment in youth development, particularly through the Mohammed VI Football Academy, which has produced many of the squad’s key players.

Several of these talents now feature for major European clubs, underscoring the strength and impact of the country’s youth system.
