Newly appointed Angola head coach Patrice Beaumelle has targeted progressing from the group stage of the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

The Palancas Negras have been paired in Group B alongside Egypt, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

“The goal is always to give our best with heart. We will compete in a tough group, facing strong opponents like Egypt, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. Only two will qualify, but we believe it is possible”, the French coach said.

Without promising immediate titles, the French coach emphasised that the focus must be on building a solid and consistent team.

“We have to be humble, work seriously, and let the results speak for themselves. Discipline, organisation, and trust in Angolan players will be the keys to our success.”

Asked about his decision to accept the Angolan project, Beaumelle revealed that he had other options but that Angola was always his priority.

“I saw this project as an opportunity for continuity and growth. I have already spoken to all the players and will travel to observe both those playing abroad and those in Angola. It is essential to closely monitor all available talent.”

He also introduced the technical staff that will accompany him: permanently based in Angola will be assistant coach Saad Ishalalen and fitness coach Olivier Martinez, along with the head coach himself.

Beaumelle succeeds Portuguese coach Pedro Gonçalves on a two-year deal.
