2024 WAFCON: Nigeria marches into semifinals with commanding win over Zambia

Nigeria made a bold statement in the 2024 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Friday, powering past Zambia with a stunning 5-0 victory in Casablanca to reach the semifinals in style.

The Super Falcons wasted no time asserting themselves. Just two minutes in, Osinachi Ohale opened the scoring with help from Esther Okoronkwo, setting the tone for a dominant afternoon at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium. Okoronkwo then turned scorer in the 33rd minute, finishing a fine assist from Rasheedat Ajibade.

Before the break, Chinwendu Ihezuo added a third, giving Nigeria a comfortable cushion heading into the second half.

The pressure didn’t let up. In the 68th minute, Blessing Oluwatosin Demehin struck the fourth, again with Okoronkwo providing the assist. Nigeria wrapped up the match in stoppage time as Folashade Ijamilusi netted the fifth, with Ajibade again pulling the strings.

This commanding win underlines Nigeria’s hunger for yet another continental title as they await their semifinal opponent with growing confidence.
