The 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) will continue on Monday, July 7, with games in Group C.
Among the two matches that will be played, Mali will take on Tanzania in what should be an interesting encounter.
The two teams last met at WAFCON in 2010, during Tanzania’s debut at the competition. In a thrilling Group A encounter, Mali edged past the East Africans with a narrow 3-2 victory.
That clash was especially memorable for its flurry of goals, with four strikes coming in a frantic seven-minute spell between the 25th and 32nd minutes.
Much has changed since their last meeting. Mali endured a brief absence from the tournament, missing the 2012 and 2014 editions before making a return in 2016. Although they exited in the group stages that year, they bounced back impressively in 2018 by reaching the semifinals in Ghana and finishing fourth.
Tanzania, on the other hand, are making their long-awaited return to the continental stage after a 14-year absence.
Their participation in 2024 marks only their second appearance in the prestigious competition, and they’ll be looking to make a statement against a more experienced Malian side.
Monday’s clash between Ghana and Mali will kick off 8 pm.
