Mali’s women’s national team made a winning start to the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Monday, July 7, beating Tanzania 1-0 in their opening encounter.
The two national teams locked horns today in the second Group C match at the tournament.
In the game played at Stade Municipal de Berkane, the two sides put up a strong performance in both halves but only one goal was scored.
A solitary strike by Saratou Traore in the final minutes of the first half propelled Mali to a narrow win at the end of the contest.
The win puts Mali in second position in the Group C standings with three points, the same points as South Africa at the summit of the standings.
Up next for Mali, the team will take on the Black Queens of Ghana in their second game at the 2024 WAFCON. The match will be played on Friday, July 11.
Mali will then finish the group games with a final encounter against defending champions South Africa.
