French Bettors Break Records During 2014 World Cup
French punters significantly increased their wagers during the 2014 World Cup, which concluded on July 13. According to L’Équipe, more than €280 million was wagered on matches throughout the tournament—an increase of nearly 40% compared to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
The Online Gaming Regulatory Authority reported €103.6 million in online bets on just one day (Tuesday), with expectations for this number to rise slightly in the following days.
Additionally, around €182 million was placed through official FDJ outlets across France. In total, French bettors wagered approximately €285 million during the World Cup, up from €200 million in 2010.
