The Curitiba stadium’s inability to complete construction on schedule has put its role as a host venue for the upcoming World Cup in jeopardy. FIFA Secretary General Jérôme Valcke, who has been in Brazil since Saturday, inspected the progress of the stadium project. According to reports from El Pais, FIFA may announce the exclusion of the Arena de Baixada stadium from the tournament on Tuesday.
The Curitiba stadium is significantly behind schedule, with key components such as seating still incomplete. FIFA had previously expressed concerns about the stadium’s progress and had even threatened to exclude it from the tournament. This threat may now become a reality following Valcke’s visit.
Originally, all 12 stadiums were supposed to be completed by December 31, 2013. The Curitiba stadium was scheduled to host several group stage matches, including Australia vs. Spain, Honduras vs. Ecuador, Iran vs. Nigeria, and Algeria vs. Russia. However, its delayed construction has raised doubts about its readiness to host these matches.
