Stephen Keshi Faces Setback as Elderson Echiejile Withdraws from World Cup
Nigeria’s head coach Stephen Keshi has been forced to revise his squad plans ahead of the World Cup after left-back Elderson Echiejile was ruled out due to injury.
The AS Monaco defender sustained a thigh injury during Nigeria’s goalless friendly draw against Greece a few days prior, which has now ruled him out of the tournament. This came shortly after the Super Eagles’ 2-1 defeat to the United States in their final preparatory match.
To fill the void, Keshi has called up Ejike Uzoenyi as Echiejile’s replacement, hoping the adjustment will not disrupt the team’s preparations as they look forward to their opening World Cup fixture.
