Gervinho confident Ivory Coast can reach World Cup second round through team effort
Ivory Coast striker Gervinho has expressed strong belief that the Elephants can advance to the second round of the 2014 World Cup, emphasizing the importance of collective strength to overcome tough opponents Colombia, Japan, and Greece in their group.
Speaking to the official website of the Ivorian Football Federation (IFF), the AS Roma forward highlighted that individual brilliance alone will not be enough. “The entire Elephants team will have to be at their best. On my own, it would be insignificant and unproductive. Even if it is true that at times, individuals will make the difference,” Gervinho said. “The fans can rest assured, I will make my contribution to the team in each of the Ivory Coast national team’s matches.”
The former Lille player also stressed that reaching the knockout stages in Brazil is an achievable ambition. “It’s an achievable goal. We have gone through many challenges together to qualify for the 2014 World Cup, which is taking place in Brazil, the country of football and King Pelé,” he said. “I think that with the quality of our squad, we will have our say if each of us agrees to put ourselves at the service of the team.”
Gervinho’s comments reflect the Elephants’ determination as they prepare to make their mark on football’s biggest stage, relying on teamwork and unity to navigate a demanding group and fulfil their World Cup aspirations.
