Belgium Edge Tunisia in Rain-Interrupted Friendly Ahead of World Cup
Belgium concluded their pre-World Cup preparations with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Tunisia in Brussels on Saturday, in a match disrupted by a dramatic hailstorm that halted play for over 50 minutes just before halftime.
The Red Devils found it challenging to impose their usual fluid style against a determined Tunisian side, who were also in the final stages of their warm-up campaign. Despite the interruptions and a tight contest, Belgium finally broke the deadlock late in the game thanks to a decisive goal from Napoli forward Dries Mertens in the 89th minute.
The victory was tempered by an injury concern to Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku, who sustained an ankle knock during the match. Belgium coach Marc Wilmots reassured fans on Sunday that the injury was not serious, with the striker expected to undergo three to four days of rest and recovery.
With their final friendly behind them, Belgium now turn their focus fully to the World Cup, where they are drawn in Group H alongside Algeria, Russia, and South Korea.
