World Cup Ticket Sales Soar as Final Phase Sparks Frenzy
The final phase of ticket sales for the 2014 FIFA World Cup has opened with a remarkable surge in demand, underscoring the global anticipation surrounding football’s most prestigious tournament, set to begin in Brazil on June 12.
According to FIFA, more than 126,000 tickets were snapped up within the first four hours of availability on Tuesday. The global governing body made the remaining 199,519 tickets available via its website at noon, and fans responded with fervor.
This latest batch brings the total number of tickets sold to nearly 2.7 million, following two earlier sales phases that saw millions of fans secure their spots in stadiums across Brazil.
Brazilian supporters continued to lead the way in securing access to the tournament, accounting for 63.4% (80,496) of the tickets sold in this final phase. This local enthusiasm reflects the deep footballing culture in the host nation, where excitement for the return of the World Cup is at fever pitch.
While international demand remains strong, with fans from around the world logging in to claim the final remaining seats, FIFA has expressed satisfaction with how smoothly the process has unfolded.
“This level of demand confirms the extraordinary global appeal of the FIFA World Cup,” a FIFA spokesperson commented. “With nearly all tickets now sold, we are confident of packed stadiums and an electric atmosphere across Brazil.”
The high-speed ticket sales come amid growing anticipation for the tournament, which kicks off on June 12 with hosts Brazil facing Croatia in São Paulo. Fans fortunate enough to have secured seats can now look forward to a month of world-class football, featuring 32 teams and culminating in the final at the iconic Maracanã Stadium on July 13.
With ticket concerns now firmly behind them, FIFA and local organizers can focus on the final preparations to deliver a tournament worthy of football’s grandest stage.
