Ivory Coast celebrated its successful performance at the 2013 Francophonie Games held in Nice. The country ranked 9th in the general standings and 4th in Africa, securing a total of 6 medals—4 gold and 2 bronze. The women’s basketball team stood out by winning the gold medal.
Athletes returning home were warmly welcomed, and they expressed their satisfaction with the support from the Ivorian people. The success in Nice has motivated them to strive for even better performances at the next Francophonie Games, which Ivory Coast will host in 2017.
However, the celebration was tempered by the unfortunate news of the disappearance of six athletes, including three basketball players.
