Zwane returns to Golden Arrows as assistant coach under new boss Dladla

Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Siyanda Zwane has been appointed assistant coach at Golden Arrows, rejoining the Durban club as part of a revamped technical team ahead of the new Betway Premiership season.

Zwane, who ended his playing career in 2020 after a spell with the now-defunct Uthongathi FC, links up with newly installed head coach Pitso Dladla at Abafana Bes’thende.

Dladla took over at the Durban side following the departure of Manqoba Mngqithi at the end of last season, with Arrows now restructuring their backroom staff before the new campaign.

Technical team reshaped

Zwane will serve as one of two assistant coaches, working alongside James Madidilane, who was also brought into the set-up last month.

The technical team has further been bolstered by the arrival of goalkeeper coach Jacob Mokhasi, completing a new-look bench for the KwaZulu-Natal outfit.

Zwane brings extensive top-flight experience from his time as a player, most notably at Mamelodi Sundowns, and from his long association with Arrows earlier in his career.

Return to familiar ground

The role marks a homecoming for the 39-year-old, who previously played for Golden Arrows between 2006 and 2014 before securing a move to Sundowns.

During his spell at the Brazilians, Zwane also had a loan stint back at Arrows, strengthening his ties with the club he now returns to in a coaching capacity.

Coaching step after media work

Since retiring from professional football, Zwane has stayed close to the game through media work, building a profile as a football analyst on both television and radio.

That period in broadcasting came while he waited for an opportunity to move into full-time coaching, which has now arrived with his appointment at Arrows.

On the bench in KZN Premier’s Cup

Zwane has already begun his duties, having been spotted on the bench alongside Dladla during the ongoing KZN Premier’s Cup in Durban.

He formed part of the technical area as Golden Arrows faced Durban City in the pre-season competition, offering an early glimpse of the club’s new coaching structure in action.
