Zungu asks AmaZulu supporters to trust club over Dube transfer

AmaZulu FC president Sandile Zungu has urged supporters to trust the club’s motives after Wandile Dube joined Mamelodi Sundowns on PSL transfer deadline day.

The 22-year-old left-footed centre-back completed his move to Chloorkop on 21 September 2026, prompting questions from Usuthu fans about AmaZulu’s direction and whether the club can fulfil its long-standing ambition of winning silverware.

Dube has reportedly signed a three-year contract with Mamelodi Sundowns.

Zungu said the decision had been made with both the club’s future and the player’s career in mind, while acknowledging the concerns raised by AmaZulu supporters.

“Our supporters must just trust our bona fides that we want the best for our team,” Zungu tells KICKOFF.

“Whatever we do, we do it with the team’s future in mind. We hear them, we empathize with them, but it is difficult to explain every decision we make because there are sensitive matters that are always at the centre of every decision we take.

“Every decision we take is in the team’s best interest, and a player’s best interest. As much as we are club owners, we are also parents who must take into consideration the interests of the young man that are entrusted to us to safeguard their careers.”

The sale of Dube has raised uncertainty among supporters who have been waiting for AmaZulu to challenge consistently for major honours. Zungu said the club understood the anxiety surrounding the transfer but could not publicly explain every factor involved in such decisions.

“All I can say to the supporters of AmaZulu, whom we value very much, is that they must trust our bona fides; we understand their anxiety, but they must know we have the best interests of the team at heart.”
