Kurt Zouma Explains Origin of His Name
Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma has revealed the unique inspiration behind his first name. Speaking to the club’s official website, the young centre-back explained that he was named after the character Kurt Sloane, played by Jean-Claude Van Damme in the 1989 martial arts film Kickboxer.
“In the film, he helps everyone and he’s super strong,” Zouma said. “So my parents thought that if they gave me that name, I’d be strong and always have a smile on my face. Apparently, it worked!”
Zouma has been in fine form for Chelsea this season, recently scoring his first Premier League goal during Wednesday’s victory over Bolton Wanderers. The 19-year-old’s combination of physical strength and positive attitude has quickly made him a fan favourite at Stamford Bridge.
