Zizo: Al Ahly had a ‘disastrous’ season

Al Ahly star Ahmed Sayed Zizo has described the club’s current campaign as deeply disappointing, admitting that the season has ended in shock and frustration for players inside the squad.

In a candid interview, Zizo said the dressing room is “very sad” after failing to secure the trophies they had targeted, adding that the team’s overall performance fell short of what is expected at the club’s level.

He noted that the new arrivals came into the squad with high ambitions of winning silverware, but the results on the pitch did not reflect those goals. According to him, the campaign has been “a disastrous season by all standards,” stressing that such an outcome is unacceptable for a club of Al Ahly’s stature.

While acknowledging that football naturally brings both victories and setbacks, Zizo insisted that a repeat of this season’s struggles cannot be tolerated. He said everyone at the club is already focused on addressing the shortcomings ahead of the next campaign.

The forward also touched on the pressure surrounding his transfer value and reputation, arguing that a player’s worth cannot be judged purely by transfer fees. He pointed out that some high-priced signings fail to deliver, while others provide significant sporting and commercial impact.

Zizo concluded by accepting the weight of expectations placed on him, saying it is normal for criticism to follow underperformance, just as praise comes with success.
