Zinedine Zidane predicted Michael Olise would score in France win over Belgium

Zinedine Zidane said he believed Michael Olise would find the net as soon as he saw the France forward run at the Belgium defence.

France secured a 1-0 victory over Belgium after Olise produced a fine individual move before scoring in the closing stages of the match. Television pictures showed France manager Zidane celebrating by running down the touchline after the goal.

“I watched Olise drive forward with the ball and beat his opponents, and I said to myself that he was going to score,” Zidane told French broadcaster TF1. “I was emotional and completely caught up in the moment with him.”

Olise scored in the 88th minute after carrying the ball forward on his own before sending a low shot beyond Belgium goalkeeper Sam Lamins.

“We deserved the result over the course of the match,” Zidane added. “Everyone is involved and motivated, and that is what we like.”

The victory moved France to six points at the top of the group, while Belgium remain on three points in third place.

France had begun their campaign with a 1-0 win over Turkey in the opening round. Belgium had also won their first match, beating Italy 2-0.

France will face Italy in the third round.
