Zimbabwe secured a commanding 5-1 victory over Eswatini in a Group B clash of the TotalEnergies CAF Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations COSAFA Qualifiers, held at the University of Johannesburg’s Soweto Campus Stadium. Zambia, meanwhile, began their title defense with an emphatic 8-0 triumph over Namibia at the same venue on Thursday.

Group C action saw South Africa cruise to a 4-0 win against Botswana, showcasing their intent to challenge for the title.

Elsewhere, Comoros and Mauritius played to a goalless stalemate, unable to find a breakthrough on day two of the competition.

Zimbabwe dominated from the outset against Eswatini, applying relentless pressure in all areas of the pitch.

The breakthrough came in the 21st minute, courtesy of Tadiwa Chakuchichi. Displaying remarkable skill, he weaved past several defenders before unleashing a strike that beat Eswatini goalkeeper Luyanda Ndlovu at his near post.

South Africa delivered a similarly impressive performance in Group C, dismantling Botswana with a clinical display.

Emile Witbooi, fresh off trials with Premier League side Chelsea, was among the scorers for the hosts.

Selwyn Stevens, Neo Bohloko, and Kamohelo Maraletse also found the back of the net, capping off a dominant outing that underlined South Africa’s potential as strong contenders in the competition.

In a more evenly matched encounter, Comoros and Mauritius battled to a 0-0 draw, with both sides struggling to convert their opportunities.

The qualifiers continue to highlight the rising talent across the region, with Zimbabwe, Zambia, and South Africa standing out as early frontrunners in their respective groups.

Fans can anticipate further intense competition as teams vie for a coveted spot in the Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
