Zimbabwe and Rwanda confirm starting line-ups for World Cup qualifier in Harare

Zimbabwe and Rwanda have announced their starting line-ups ahead of this afternoon’s 2026 World Cup qualifying clash, with kick-off set for 1:00 p.m. GMT.

The match, part of Round 8 of the African qualifiers, carries contrasting significance for the two nations. Zimbabwe, already out of contention, will be playing for pride on home soil, while Rwanda remain in the hunt for a play-off spot and view the fixture as a vital opportunity to sustain their hopes.

Both teams finalised their selections earlier today, confirming the players who will take to the pitch in what is expected to be a tense and competitive encounter.

Zimbabwe’s XI sees Washington Arubi start in goal, offering his experience and leadership at the back. In defence, Jordan Zemura, Garananga, Padera, Takwara, and Jalai form the rearguard unit tasked with containing Rwanda’s forward threats.

In midfield, captain Marshall Munetsi anchors the side, supported by Ngwenya and Musona, whose energy and movement will be crucial in linking play. Up front, Maswanhise and Chirewa complete the attacking structure, both aiming to exploit Rwanda’s backline and make an impact in a match that could serve as a building block for Zimbabwe’s long-term development.

Rwanda, aware of the importance of the contest, have fielded a strong side led by goalkeeper Ntwari Fiacre. The defensive line consists of Kavita Phanuel, Niyomugabo Claude, Manzi Thierry, and Mutsinsi Ange, who will need to remain disciplined against Zimbabwe’s pace in wide areas.

In midfield, captain Bizimana Djihad carries responsibility for dictating tempo and maintaining composure. He is joined by Kwizera Jojea, Mugisha Bonheur, and Muhire Kevin, whose combination of creativity and work rate will be essential in breaking down their hosts.

The attacking line is spearheaded by Mugisha Gilbert and Biramahire Abeddy, both of whom will look to convert chances and give Rwanda the advantage in what could be a decisive outing for their qualification campaign.

For Zimbabwe, the fixture offers a chance to give home supporters a strong performance despite their elimination. For Rwanda, it represents a must-win situation if they are to keep alive their aspirations of advancing to the next stage of the qualifiers.

With the official line-ups now confirmed, anticipation is building for what promises to be a fiercely contested battle in Harare.
