Honour Janza Named Zambia Head Coach Ahead of AFCON Qualifiers
Zambia Football Association (FAZ) president Kalusha Bwalya has confirmed the appointment of Honour Janza as the new head coach of the Chipolopolo. Janza takes over from Patrice Beaumelle, whose contract recently expired and who has since joined Ivory Coast’s coaching staff as assistant to Hervé Renard.
Janza, formerly Zambia’s national technical director, was initially appointed interim manager but has now been confirmed in the role for an extended period. Bwalya highlighted the decision to promote a local coach after five years of foreign management under Hervé Renard and his team.
The new coach’s immediate challenge will be steering Zambia through the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, which begin in early September. Zambia has been drawn in Group F and will open their qualifying campaign with an away fixture against Mozambique.
The FAZ hopes Janza’s local expertise and familiarity with the national setup will drive Zambia back to continental success.
