Zambia’s Chipolopolo coach, Hervé Renard, finds it challenging to explain why the reigning champions won’t be participating in the upcoming African Cup of Nations. Speaking to the press post a training session at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, Renard expressed that despite facing constraints with player availability due to club commitments, the five days of preparation were deemed sufficient to face Uganda. Renard emphasized the need for efficient work within the limited timeframe, assuring that the team is injury-free, and their primary goal is to qualify for CAN 2013.

Renard, who previously served as an assistant to Claude Le Roy in Ghana in 2008, acknowledges the unpredictable nature of football at the high level. Despite the uncertainties, he firmly believes that Zambia, as the defending champions, cannot afford to fail in their quest for qualification to South Africa 2013.

Highlighting the unique challenge of a home-and-away match against a single opponent, Renard notes that it differs from playing in a group of four teams where points can be dropped. He stresses the importance of maintaining focus in such a format. Despite the inherent difficulties, Renard expresses confidence that his team will successfully fulfill their task against Uganda.
