A source within Zamalek SC has denied reports claiming that Moroccan forward Karim El-Barkawy has officially joined the club from Saudi side Al-Raed.
Although the 28-year-old striker has been heavily linked with a move to the Egyptian giants, the source clarified that no agreement has been finalised.
“Al-Barakawy is indeed a candidate to join Zamalek, as part of a list of three players, but Zamalek has not secured his signature as rumoured,” the source revealed.
The source confirmed that negotiations have taken place and acknowledged that El-Barkawy’s contract with Al-Raed is set to expire at the end of the current season.
Despite this, there are mixed opinions within the Zamalek camp about pursuing the deal.
“Negotiations have already taken place with Al-Barakawi, and we know that his contract with Al-Raed expires at the end of the current season.
“However, some within Zamalek have reservations about the deal because of the player’s performance last season.”
The source also disclosed that Zamalek had previously reached a full agreement with El-Barkawy last year, but the player opted to renew his deal with Al-Raed at the last minute.
