Zamalek top group after decisive Confederation Cup win over Kaizer Chiefs

Zamalek SC secured a place in the quarter-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup with a 2-1 home victory over Kaizer Chiefs, a result that confirmed top spot in their group on the final day of the group stage.

The win, achieved at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium during the sixth and concluding round of fixtures, ensured Zamalek progressed directly to the knockout phase.

Finishing with 11 points, the Egyptian side closed out the group campaign with a performance that balanced patience and decisive finishing.

The first half unfolded evenly, with both teams searching for control but creating limited clear chances. The breakthrough arrived shortly after the restart.

In the 53rd minute, Brazilian striker Juan Bezerra put the home side ahead, converting to give Zamalek a crucial lead and shift the momentum of the contest.

Zamalek strengthened their grip on the match in the 72nd minute when veteran midfielder Abdallah El Said doubled the advantage.
