Egyptian giants Zamalek are scheduled to meet head coach Jose Peseiro in a crunch meeting this week following the club’s elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup.
Peseiro’s future with the Egyptian powerhouse is currently in danger, and risk losing his job after the crucial meeting.
Zamalek, who are the defending champions of the Confederation Cup fell to South African side Stellenbosch in the quarterfinals. Zamalek held their opponent to a 0-0 draw in the first leg before succumbing to a 1-0 home defeat, confirming their elimination.
According to reports, a chunk of the Zamalek board are unhappy with the Portuguese trainer following their exit from the Confederation Cup.
However, the board is scheduled to meet this week to discuss Peseiro’s future at the club. While the majority of the management team is reportedly leaning towards a change of coach, Mido, a member of the club’s planning committee, has expressed his desire for Peseiro to remain until the end of the season.
In the midst of the uncertainty, José Riveiro, the Spanish coach currently managing Orlando Pirates, has emerged as a strong candidate to succeed Peseiro.
His impressive performances with the South African side have caught the attention of Zamalek, and the club could look to bring him in at the end of the season.
With the season drawing to a close, Zamalek’s management will need to make swift decisions regarding their coaching situation.
