Zamalek SC has turned to European expertise to boost its medical department, bringing in former Villarreal doctor Gerard Osu Manzanite to lead the club’s healthcare setup.

The appointment marks a bold step by the Cairo giants as they seek to raise medical standards ahead of a demanding season.

The club’s board, under the leadership of Hussein Labib, confirmed Manzanite’s arrival following the recommendation of sporting director John Edward. The move is part of a broader effort to modernize player care using international expertise.

Manzanite brings a wealth of experience from Spain’s top flight. He served Villarreal CF from November 2021 and holds multiple academic credentials in sports medicine, including a Master’s from TECH International University and certifications from FIFA and the World Anti-Doping Agency.

The revamped medical staff now includes Dr. Mohamed Shawky as chairman of physical therapy and performance development, Dr. Amr Awida as physiotherapy and rehabilitation specialist, and Mustafa Abdo in rehabilitation. Load management will be overseen by Alaa Ragab, with Saeed Suwailem and Mohammed Al-Jazzar handling massage and rehab.

Zamalek fans will hope this medical upgrade keeps their squad fit and firing.
