Zamalek’s leadership didn’t hesitate to respond on Wednesday to a fresh controversy at the club’s headquarters tied to midfielder Ahmed Mostafa, better known as Zizo.

The board, under Hussein Labib’s direction, moved quickly to launch an investigation into two club employees accused of running over a picture of the star player. With Zizo’s contract set to expire at season’s end, reports in Egypt suggest he’s already inked a deal with rivals Al-Ahly, adding fuel to the fire.

The decision to probe the workers came after Zizo’s image was reportedly pulled down from the football sector’s stadiums and trampled. This follows the technical staff’s call, guided by coach Jose Peseiro, to bench Zizo for the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final clash against Stellenbosch from South Africa.

Just a day earlier, Zizo fired back with a heated statement. He blamed Zamalek’s board for the contract mess denying any deal with another team and vowing to wait until his contract’s final day.
