Zamalek’s pre-season ended on a sour note as they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Broksi in their final warm-up game ahead of the new Egyptian Premier League campaign.
Played on Friday, the match saw Zamalek field a mixed lineup, with coach Yannick Ferreira opting to give different players a runout following their previous friendly against Ghazl El Mahalla.
Broksi struck first just six minutes into the game, putting pressure on the White Knights early. Zamalek responded with a bright moment just before the break, when Abdel Hamid Maali fired in a well-taken equalizer in the final minute of the first half.
Despite that spark, Zamalek struggled to regain control. Broksi regained the lead in the 63rd minute, then sealed the result with a third goal late in the 85th.
Ferreira and his staff used the friendly to evaluate squad depth and fitness levels. But the result raises fresh concerns with just a week to go.
Zamalek begins its league campaign next Friday against Ceramica Cleopatra, and the team will be hoping to quickly bounce back from this disappointing loss.
