Zamalek have stepped into the race for striker Osama Faisal, aiming to hijack the forward’s expected switch to arch-rivals Al Ahly.
Faisal, 24, had an impressive season with National Bank, scoring 12 goals in the Egyptian Premier League. His performances drew strong interest from Al Ahly, who are keen to boost their attacking line amid uncertainty surrounding their top scorer Wessam Abou Ali, who has offers to leave.
Al Ahly president Mahmoud El-Khatib reportedly contacted National Bank’s president, Major General Ashraf Nassar, to discuss a potential deal for Faisal.
However, Zamalek have responded with a counterattack of their own. Sources confirm that senior figures at the White Castle made contact with National Bank to either reclaim their former player or at least block his move to their bitter rivals.
Zamalek believe this is the perfect moment to return the favour after Al Ahly famously disrupted their efforts to sign Ceramica Cleopatra duo Ahmed Ramadan Beckham and Mohamed Shoukry last season, despite personal agreements with the players.
