Zamalek SC defender Ahmed Fetouh’s recent legal troubles have sparked debate and reflection in the Egyptian football community.
On November 16, 2024, the Matrouh Criminal Court handed Fetouh a one-year suspended prison sentence following a tragic accident on the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road.
The incident, which claimed the life of a police officer, was determined to involve involuntary manslaughter and driving under the influence of drugs.
While the suspended sentence spares Fetouh from immediate incarceration, it places him under a strict three-year probation.
Any legal infractions during this period would activate the original prison sentence.
Alongside the sentence, Fetouh was fined 20,000 Egyptian pounds, and his driver’s license was revoked.
The ruling came after a settlement was reached between the victim’s family and the player’s legal team.
Fetouh, who had been absent from Zamalek’s roster during legal proceedings, has since returned to the pitch, featuring in the opening matches of the Egyptian Premier League season.
As Fetouh continues his career under scrutiny, this episode serves as a poignant reminder of the responsibilities public figures carry, both on and off the field.
