Zamalek stands firm on transfer exit for young defender Ahmed Refaai
Zamalek have made their stance clear as defender Ahmed Refaai pushes for a move away from the club ahead of the 2025–2026 season.
The 22-year-old, eager for a new chapter in his career, recently reached out to the club’s board requesting to be released.
However, a source inside the Egyptian giants revealed Kooora that the board denied Ahmed Refaai’s plea to leave for free. Instead, they’ve told him to bring a formal offer if he wishes to depart.
“A member of the Zamalek Council rejected Ahmed Refaai’s request to leave for free, and asked him to bring an offer to the club in order to allow him to leave,” the source confirmed.
Ahmed Refaai’s journey with Zamalek began under former head coach Jesualdo Ferreira, who promoted him to the senior squad in 2022. The club showed their faith in the young defender by extending his contract for four years last December. But things have changed quickly, with Ahmed Refaai now placed on the waiting list and actively seeking a new opportunity elsewhere.
