Zamalek have paused their pursuit of Iraqi forward Mohanad Ali after talks hit a snag over financial terms.
The 24-year-old Al-Shorta striker, who has scored 10 goals in 28 appearances this season, is set to become a free agent when his contract ends this summer.
Sources say Zamalek had been in regular contact with Ali through Ahmed Hossam Mido, a key figure on the club’s planning committee.
“Zamalek has been in contact with Iraqi star Mohanad Ali in recent weeks, through Ahmed Hossam Mido, a member of the planning committee,” the source told Kooora.
He added, “Mohanad Ali is a good and influential player in front of goal. He is 24 years old and available for free, and the planning committee sees him as an ideal deal.”
He concluded, “Negotiations were temporarily halted three days ago due to the financial consideration. Zamalek has not reached a final agreement with the player, but negotiations are still open.”
Ali’s availability on a free transfer keeps the door open, but for now, Zamalek are holding back until terms make sense.
