Zamalek sign middle blocker Ibrahim Mohamed ‘Heka’ for next season

Zamalek have announced the signing of Ibrahim Mohamed ‘Heka’ to strengthen their men’s volleyball team for the upcoming season.

Heka plays in the middle position and becomes the latest addition to a squad undergoing changes after Zamalek finished last season without winning a men’s volleyball title.

The club confirmed the agreement on Monday, 10 August 2026, as it continues to build its squad for the new campaign. No further details about the length of Heka’s contract or the financial terms of the deal were announced.

Zamalek had already reached agreements with Mohamed Mostafa ‘Loeba’ and Reda Heikal, who are also expected to reinforce the team next season.

The Cairo club have additionally completed the signing of Moaz Abdel Karim from Al Shams. His arrival adds another new option to the squad as Zamalek look to improve their results in the men’s game.

The moves come after Al Ahly, referred to as “the Reds”, won all of the men’s volleyball titles last season. Zamalek did not secure any men’s trophy during that campaign.

Heikal returns to Zamalek after spending time playing professionally in Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates following his departure from the club. His experience abroad will add to the team’s options as it prepares for the next season.

Mohamed Mostafa ‘Loeba’ has also previously played outside Egypt, having had a spell in the United Arab Emirates Volleyball League.

The signings of Heka, Loeba, Heikal and Abdel Karim represent a significant reinforcement of Zamalek’s squad, although the club’s announcement did not provide details of the team’s complete recruitment plans.

Heka’s role in the middle will give Zamalek another player for that position, while the arrivals of Heikal and Loeba bring back a player with previous ties to the club and another with experience in the UAE Volleyball League. Abdel Karim joins from Al Shams.

Zamalek’s recruitment comes with the team seeking a stronger challenge in the men’s competitions after a season in which Al Ahly claimed every available title. The club’s latest signings are therefore aimed at improving its squad before the new campaign begins.

The agreement with Heka was announced alongside details of the club’s other moves, underlining Zamalek’s intention to reshape the side after a trophyless season. The club has not stated whether further signings will follow.
