Zamalek set to part ways with Ahmed Mahmoud by mutual consent

Zamalek are preparing to terminate right-back Ahmed Mahmoud’s contract by mutual consent after informing the 22-year-old that he is no longer part of the club’s plans.

A source at Zamalek told FilGoal.com: “Ahmed Mahmoud, Zamalek’s right-back, is outside the team’s plans and has been informed of the decision to terminate the contract by mutual consent between the two parties.”

The source added: “The player is not at the team’s training camp.”

Zamalek are currently holding a pre-season camp in the New Administrative Capital as they prepare for the new campaign.

Mahmoud returned to Zamalek after completing a season-long loan at Al Ittihad Alexandria, which ended at the conclusion of the 2025-26 season. He had spent the campaign away from the Cairo club after making nine appearances for Zamalek during the 2024-25 season, when he provided one assist.

The defender has won the Egypt Cup and the CAF Super Cup with Zamalek.

The club have also decided to release four players from their youth team: Anas Wael, Ahmed Magdy, Abdelrahman Kamal and Ayman Amir Abdel Aziz.

Zamalek are preparing to defend their Egyptian Premier League title after winning last season’s competition for the 15th time in their history. They finished the previous campaign with 56 points, one ahead of runners-up Pyramids.

Their first league match of the new season will be against Al Ittihad Alexandria on Friday, 21 August, at Cairo Stadium.

The Egyptian champions are scheduled to compete in five competitions during the 2026-27 season: the Egyptian Premier League, the Egypt Cup, the Egyptian League Cup, the CAF Champions League and the Egyptian Super Cup.

Mahmoud’s proposed departure is part of Zamalek’s preparations for a demanding season, with the club continuing to reshape their squad ahead of their domestic title defence and return to continental competition.
