Zamalek resume training ahead of Zed Capital Cup clash

Zamalek will resume training on Tuesday as the team begins preparations for their upcoming clash with Zed in the Egypt Capital Cup.

The White Knights will return to the training pitch at the auxiliary field of the Air Defense Stadium after enjoying a four-day break granted by the technical staff during the suspension of the Egyptian Premier League.

The league was paused following the completion of the fifth round, giving Zamalek’s players time away from competitive action before preparations resume for their next assignment.

The coaching staff had initially planned for the squad to return to training on Monday, but the resumption was pushed back by 24 hours, with the players now scheduled to report on Tuesday.

The delay sparked reports that the change was linked to outstanding payments owed to members of the squad. However, the club has previously acknowledged financial difficulties and the issue of delayed player payments.

Zamalek will now shift their attention to the Capital Cup, with the team set to face Zed in their opening group-stage fixture on October 8.

The match will provide the technical staff with another opportunity to assess the squad during the league break while maintaining competitive rhythm ahead of the club’s return to Premier League action.

Zamalek head into the break on the back of a narrow 1-0 victory over Ghazl El Mahalla in their most recent league outing. The result left the Cairo giants second in the Egyptian Premier League standings with 13 points after five rounds.

Following their Capital Cup assignment against Zed, Zamalek will have another major fixture on the horizon when they face arch-rivals Al Ahly on October 11 in the sixth round of the Premier League.

The White Knights will therefore use the coming period to prepare for a busy schedule, with the Zed encounter serving as their immediate focus before attention turns back to the league and the highly anticipated meeting with Al Ahly.
