Zamalek reduce training intensity ahead of Plastics friendly

Zamalek reduced the physical workload during Monday’s training session to limit the risk of fatigue before their pre-season friendly against Plastics on Tuesday.

The session took place at Nadi El Nady Club’s ground in the New Capital, where Zamalek are holding a closed training camp as they prepare for the 2026-27 season.

Head coach Moatamed Gamal and his coaching staff chose to ease the demands on the players during the workout, with the team’s meeting with Plastics scheduled for the following day.

Portuguese fitness coach Nuno Costa Ribeiro oversaw the physical section of the session. The players completed a range of exercises before moving on to a light ball-based routine.

The coaching staff then divided the squad into groups for technical and tactical work. Gamal and his assistants closely followed the exercises, offering instructions and correcting aspects of the players’ work as the session progressed.

Zamalek brought the training to a close with a small-sided tactical game. The exercise was designed to allow the players to put into practice the ideas covered during the tactical drills, while continuing their preparation for the competitive fixtures that await them in the new season.

The Egyptian club are set to compete in several tournaments during the upcoming campaign. Their schedule includes the Egyptian Premier League, the Egypt Cup, the Egypt Capital Cup, the Egyptian Super Cup and the CAF Champions League.

Zamalek finished last season as Egyptian Premier League champions, claiming the title for the 15th time in their history. They also reached the final of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Tuesday’s match against Plastics is part of the club’s preparations for that demanding programme. The decision to reduce the physical load in training came with the focus on ensuring the players avoid excessive exertion before the friendly.

The work at the New Capital camp has therefore combined physical preparation with lighter ball exercises, organised tactical sessions and a final small-sided game. Gamal’s staff used the session to continue developing the team’s technical and tactical approach while managing the players’ condition ahead of the next test.

Zamalek’s upcoming participation in domestic competitions and the CAF Champions League means the squad will need to be prepared for a busy season. The friendly against Plastics will provide another opportunity to assess the players as the club continues its build-up to the start of official competition.
