Zamalek on top as Nabil Emad Donga set to miss Wadi Degla clash
Zamalek’s bright start to the Egyptian Premier League season has been hit with a setback as key midfielder Nabil Emad Donga will sit out the upcoming clash against Wadi Degla through suspension.
The dependable midfielder received his third yellow card of the campaign during Tuesday’s narrow 1-0 win over FC Pharco.
The caution adds to earlier bookings picked up in matches against Ceramica Cleopatra and Modern Sport, ruling him out of Sunday’s fifth-round fixture. His absence will be felt in the middle of the park, where he has been a steady presence since the opening game.
Despite the blow, Zamalek supporters had reason to cheer after Angolan forward Chico Banza delivered the decisive strike against FC Pharco in the 48th minute. His goal secured all three points and pushed the White Knights to 10 points, placing them firmly at the top of the standings.
Zamalek will now look to continue their strong form when they meet Wadi Degla, but they must find solutions without their suspended midfield general.
