Zamalek FC have been dealt a serious blow in their efforts to retain star man Ahmed Mostafa Zizo, with the Egyptian Football Association confirming his contract ends Thursday.
The club had hoped to keep the influential winger until June 12, the new date set for the Egyptian Capital Cup final. Zamalek sent a letter to the EFA insisting the season should end on that day and that Zizo’s deal should run until their final match.
However, the EFA responded on Wednesday, stating that the season officially concludes Thursday, not June 12. According to FIFA rules, the end of the season is tied to the completion of both league and cup competitions.
This means Zizo’s contract will expire Thursday, and he will be free to sign with another club.
Zizo has been strongly linked with rivals Al Ahly after his exit from Zamalek.
Meanwhile, the EFA’s disciplinary committee dismissed Zamalek’s complaint that Zizo missed training due to incompetence, adding to the club’s recent frustrations.
The situation has sparked concern among fans as Zamalek face another off-field setback.
