Algerian winger Farid El-Melali has popped up on Zamalek’s radar as the club looks to bolster its left flank ahead of the summer window.
El-Melali, currently with French side Angers, is nearing the end of his contract, prompting speculation about a potential move to the Egyptian giants.
A well-placed Zamalek source played down the buzz, however, saying no agreement is in place. “Farid El-Melali is among the names already nominated for signing, but he is neither the first nor the second choice on the list of candidates,” the source told Kooora.
They added that the club’s Planning Committee, led by Hussein Labib, is solely handling transfer matters, and the board has not been briefed on any final targets. “The board of directors does not know the names of the candidates… so the news of an agreement with El-Melali is incorrect.”
The source confirmed a seven-man shortlist exists for the position and the most suitable option will be finalized soon.
El-Melali featured in 34 games this season, scoring three goals and notching seven assists across all competitions.
