Zamalek were held to a 2-2 draw by Modern Sport in their final warm-up match before the start of the 2026-27 Egyptian Premier League season.

The friendly was played at the Cairo Stadium training ground, with Mahmoud Hamdy El Wensh and Omar Gaber scoring for Zamalek. Modern Sport responded through Adam Ragab and Mohamed Sabry to secure a share of the spoils.

Zamalek took the lead when El Wensh followed up after the goalkeeper had saved Adi Al-Dabbagh’s header. The match began at a fast pace, with both sides creating early openings.

Modern Sport’s defence had to intervene in the seventh minute after Al-Dabbagh broke into the penalty area, preventing the Zamalek forward from completing the move.

Zamalek started the match with Mohamed Awad in goal. The back four consisted of Omar Gaber, Mohamed Ismail, Mahmoud Hamdy El Wensh and Mahmoud Bentayg.

Mohamed Shehata, Ahmed Fattouh and Adam Kaied formed the midfield, while Ahmed Abdel Rahim “Eisho”, Adi Al-Dabbagh and Ahmed Sherif led the attack.

At half-time, Zamalek coach Moataz Gamal replaced Awad with goalkeeper Mehdi Soliman.

Gaber doubled Zamalek’s advantage in the 53rd minute after combining with Sherif in a well-worked attacking move.

Modern Sport reduced the deficit nine minutes later, with Adam Ragab finding the net in the 62nd minute.

Zamalek were reduced to 10 players in the 83rd minute when Mostafa El Zenary was sent off for a strong challenge on a Modern Sport player.

Modern Sport completed the comeback two minutes later, as Mohamed Sabry scored in the 85th minute to make it 2-2.

The result brings Zamalek’s pre-season preparations to a close ahead of their opening league fixture. Their meeting with Modern Sport was their final match before the 2026-27 campaign begins.

Zamalek will open their Egyptian Premier League season against Al Ittihad Alexandria at the Cairo Stadium next Friday.
