Zamalek files official complaint against Ahmed Mostafa Zizo after Super Cup incident

Zamalek’s board has officially filed a complaint with the Egyptian Football Association’s disciplinary and ethics committee against Al-Ahly winger Ahmed Mostafa Zizo, following controversy during the Super Cup award ceremony in Abu Dhabi.

Al-Ahly secured the title with a 2–0 win over Zamalek, but during the medal presentation, Zizo bypassed Hisham Nasr, Zamalek’s vice president, without a handshake, an act that caused shock and anger.

Nasr called the gesture “undisciplined” in a televised interview and expressed disappointment with Khaled Mortagy, Al-Ahly’s treasurer, who celebrated the incident and shared photos online. Zamalek’s complaint cited a breach of sportsmanship and protocol, demanding disciplinary action under article 6/6 of the committee’s guidelines, which penalize disrespect toward officials and organizations.

Nasr also voiced, “International protocol for award ceremonies is clear. If not respected, why doesn’t the FA have rules for childish behavior?” He stressed that disciplinary steps should’ve been taken instantly, regardless of formal complaints. Nasr described his intent to greet all players respectfully, but felt snubbed by Zizo’s actions.

The club’s complaint underscores concerns about respect, sports conduct, and the precedent such incidents set within Egyptian football. Zizo, formerly of Zamalek, joined Al-Ahly for free this past summer after failed contract negotiations with Zamalek.
