The atmosphere at Cairo Stadium turned sour on Thursday as Zamalek fans loudly turned against their own star midfielder, Ahmed Mostafa Zizo during their Egyptian Premier League match against Al-Masry Al-Borsaiedi.
What began as a routine league game quickly shifted when supporters began chanting pointed messages at the player. “Guarantee a… Prove a case. Entering the club needs men,” they shouted. The discontent didn’t stop there. Another chant rang out: “Al-Ja’an is afraid of what, what did we do?”
Tensions between the player and the club have been rising. Zamalek recently announced that Zizo will leave once his contract expires at the end of the season, with renewal talks having broken down. Reports say Zizo is in advanced talks with bitter rivals Al Ahly.
The club has since referred him for investigation over missed training sessions and controversial public remarks. Despite being summoned, Zizo refused to appear at the hearing.
Zamalek currently sit third in the standings with 38 points, while Al-Masry trail closely behind in fourth with 34 points.
