Zamalek fans demand change after unconvincing victory over Dekedaha
After securing an easy qualification to the Confederation Cup group stage with a 7–0 aggregate win over Somali side Dekedaha, the atmosphere within Zamalek remains tense.
Despite the single goal victory in the second leg, fans filled the stadium with angry chants against sporting director John Edward and coach Yannick Ferreira. The team’s performance with several backup players failed to meet supporters’ hopes and further highlighted underlying technical and administrative issues.
Instead of a celebratory mood, the qualification match became an outlet for pent-up frustrations due to recent disputes over player contracts and ongoing financial and technical troubles. Fans’ anger turned especially towards young midfielder Mohamed El Sayed, who played the full match but refused contract renewal and missed a penalty. Rumors continue that he may depart for rivals Al Ahly after his contract ends next summer.
Although Ferreira’s team cruised past its opponent, supporters remained unconvinced by the tactical approach and team choices. The division between club management and fans deepens, with supporters insisting their voice be heard in decisions. For Zamalek, trust is in crisis, and decisive action may be needed to heal the widening rift and restore faith within the club’s passionate fanbase
