Zamalek edge past Egypt Insurance 3-2 to reach Egypt Cup last 16

Zamalek secured a dramatic 3-2 victory over second-tier side Egypt Insurance at Cairo Stadium to advance to the last 16 of the Egypt Cup.

The match was part of the competition’s round of 32, with Zamalek recovering from conceding first before scoring a late winner to settle the tie.

FilGoal.com reported that Ahmed Khodry replaced Fattouh in Zamalek’s starting line-up after Fattouh suffered a muscle strain during the warm-up.

Egypt Insurance started brightly and nearly took the lead in the third minute. Dawouda Kamara struck a powerful effort from outside the penalty area, but Zamalek goalkeeper Mahdi Soliman made the save.

Kamara went close again six minutes later when his fierce shot hit the crossbar. Zamalek responded in the 13th minute following a move involving Abdullah El Said and Mohamed Hamdy, which ended with Nasser منسي shooting from inside the area. The defence intervened to clear the danger.

Egypt Insurance eventually broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute. Kamara found space outside the penalty area and sent another powerful strike into the net to put his side ahead.

Zamalek levelled two minutes into added time at the end of the first half. Mohamed Shehata followed up after Abdullah El Said’s shot had been parried and fired the rebound into the goal.

The Cairo club increased the pressure after the restart and moved in front for the first time in the 53rd minute. Ahmed Sherif converted a penalty to make it 2-1.

Egypt Insurance came close to equalising in the 75th minute when Jalal El Sharkawy met a cross with a well-directed header, but the attempt did not result in a goal.

The second-tier side continued to threaten and drew level six minutes from time. Skolz took a free-kick from close to the area, forcing Soliman to make a save, but Hisham Yahya Mostafa headed in the rebound.

Zamalek restored their lead in the 88th minute after a serious defensive error by Egypt Insurance. Adam Kaied capitalised on a poor clearance and struck from inside the penalty area, sending the ball into the right side of the goal.

The 3-2 victory took Zamalek through to the Egypt Cup last 16, where they will face El Sharqia ENPPI, who beat Proxy by the same score.
