Zamalek SC has come to the defense of Mahmoud Bentayeg, the former Raja Casablanca defender, alleging that the Moroccan left-back has been unfairly targeted by a media campaign.

Ahmed Souleiman, a member of Zamalek’s board of directors, addressed the issue during an appearance on the club’s official channel.
Mahmoud Bentayeg has been subjected to intense media scrutiny even before he had the chance to prove himself with the team,” Souleiman said. He added that the player has faced unfounded doubts about his fitness and technical capabilities, undermining his reputation before his Zamalek career has truly begun.
To counter these claims, Souleiman revealed that Bentayeg underwent comprehensive medical evaluations prior to finalizing his move to Zamalek.
The club ensured that the deal was concluded at reasonable financial terms, considering the player’s potential contribution to the team.
The deal was agreed upon with relatively low figures, reflecting our belief in the player’s abilities while managing financial risks,” Souleiman noted.
Despite the criticisms, Zamalek remains committed to supporting Bentayeg as he integrates into the squad.
Addressing Bentayeg’s future with the team, Souleiman stated that Zamalek is considering renegotiating the terms of his purchase option to make the transfer more feasible for the club.
We are in discussions to lower the financial terms of the purchase option,” he said, emphasizing that the club values Bentayeg’s role and believes his absence could significantly affect the team’s defensive strength.
Bentayeg, who joined Zamalek after a stint with AS Saint-Étienne, has yet to respond publicly to the media allegations.
