Zamalek are preparing to part ways with young centre-back Ahmed Refaei, who is on the brink of joining Egyptian Premier League rivals Pharco FC this summer.
Refaei has been missing from the team’s group training in recent days, a sign of his imminent departure after being placed on the club’s waiting list. Once seen as a rising talent when former coach Jesualdo Ferreira promoted him in 2022, the 23-year-old signed a four-year contract extension last December. But his time at the Royal Club now appears to be coming to a close.
Sources close to the negotiations confirmed talks are progressing between Pharco and Refaei, with the defender keen on a fresh start.
“Ahmed Refaei is close to joining the ranks of Pharco, and the recent period witnessed negotiations between the player and club officials,” the source told Kooora.
“Ahmed Refaei is a young player who excels at playing in the centre-back position, which is what Pharco is looking for at the moment.”
Pharco are working to lift a registration ban to finalise the deal before the new season.
